Ocean has developed a data exchange protocol with the aim to cater to the needs of a growing machine and data economy. The purpose of the protocol is to make a wide range of data assets and their related data services accessible for the development of better AI models and other data-driven applications. The protocol uses a set of Web3 protocols and privacy technologies. It is designed as a multi-token system, where data owners can share access to their data in a privacy-preserving yet accountable manner.
Disclaimer: The features and rules of Ocean Protocol have changed various times since its inception in 2017. The current chapter describes the mechanisms of the protocol and new features that have been introduced after the roll-out of V4. I would like to thank Trent McConaghy for taking the time to give me overall input and feedback, especially on the most recent changes which are relevant to this chapter.
