Monto dos Dados is an applied research farm in Alentejo, Portugal where we work on the intersection of farming, IoT, Web3 & AI. We investigate the tokenization of agricultural assets & sustainable ecosystem. The purpose is to develop a prototype for an open source technology platform for farmers that is usable, affordable and scalable.
The technology will enable farmers to measure what is happening in their land and create publicly verifiable proofs of sustainability. The aim is to use different types of sensors that communicate with public blockchain networks to create publicly verifiable sustainability certificates of agricultural assets & sustainable ecosystem services such as soil quality, water retention, biodiversity maintenance.
These certificates can provide additional revenue streams for farmers in the future - such as revenues from the sale of tokenized CO2 + certificates which the maintenance of trees and other plants and animals create over time. By measuring what is happening in the land in a publicly verifiable way, we can measure the productivity data of plants and animals in their contribution of our global public goods. This provides the necessary data basis for rewarding the maintenance and portion of our local and global public goods in real time and without paperwork or subsidies.

RESIDENCY PROGRAM
In addition to applying sensors in the land, and evaluating the data we are measuring, there is a lot of analogue work to do on the farm. The farm has 20 ha, 10 of which are an olive orchard, the rest are other types of trees and 8 ha or uncultivated land where we can plant anything from food forests, dry gardens, or artificial bodies of water. Trees have to be pruned, wood logs need to be collected, wood needs to be sawed, trees need to be mulched etc.
We offer residency programs to people with farming experience, sustainability scientists or landscape artists, hardware or Web3 developers, or anyone with the motivation and means to support us in our endeavours. The residency programs can last 2 to 4 months. You can apply alone or as a team of two people. You can apply with your specific project which you would like to implement while here, or apply for a learning experience were we allocate work to you.
Examples for a residency project could be "Create a dry garden," "Landscape design," "Pruning olive trees," "Identify plants and evaluate biodiversity," “Apply sensors and log trees in our system.”
In exchange for your work you have free housing on the premises - an independent building with 55 m2 which can house a couple or two friends working together. The building has a kitchen and a bathroom and heating s well as cooling and an amazing view. You will also receive an ebike with which you can use to independently go into the next town (Elvas) and run your errands.
You are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours a week and will be paid for that time. The compensation includes social portuguese security contributions and working insurance.
To apply, please send an email to shermin@token.kitchen with you experience and a concept of the work you want to provide during your residency program, when you would like to come and how long you would like to stay.
